So much went down over a frenzied 3 days at LAMC that I’m going to pop in with small write-ups of artists, showcases, etc that left an impression on yours truly.
Diana Fuentes is a 29 year old Cuban singer-songwriter whose tiny frame hides some unbelievable-knock-you-the-fuck-out vocals. Home girl doesn’t sing, she snags. She was making the rounds at LAMC promoting her upcoming sophomore release, Planeta Planetario (Planetary Planet), which was produced by her husband Eduardo Cabra (El Visitante) of Calle 13. I caught her at the LAMC Acoustic Showcase at SOBs. The crowd was obnoxious and offensively L-O-U-D and for you fools who were there and felt the need to carry on some unnecessarily loud conversation about how basic you are, you jerks missed out on something special. She opened by playing a kazoo and I wish I could tell you about that song but, again, loud food. She performed a bolero style song second and knocked it out of the park. Stop reading and watch this performance:
See, she’s got some powerful lungs and the emotion that just seeped out of every pore in her body seemed to grab the attention of those way in the back. I’m excited to hear Planeta Planetario once it’s out and hopefully to also catch her live in my city.
and finally, here’s the official video for the first single, Sera Sol:
